University of Oregon School of Law Osprey Nest
Several years ago an osprey nest was erected at the University of Oregon track field, and was snatched up by a pair, and well used. One year, during a race at a track meet there, the male was bringing in a big trout from the Willamette River nearby, and dropped it right on the head of one of the runners! (Fish Falling from the Sky, was the local headline!) So they then moved the nest across the street to the 3rd floor roof of the UofO Law School, where it remains today.
Last year, the second egg failed to hatch, and the third chick was so much smaller than the first one that it, too, failed to thrive..... So the first chick was reared alone, and called "Solo" by loyal watchers. Solo did magnificent helicoptering during the International Track Trials there and was featured on the field's big screen, as well as national TV. He finally fledged to a tall crane hovering over the track field, to the vigorous applause of the crowd, and viewed all over the world! (Because this nest has no chat, all interested watchers have been invited to chat freely about that site on the Seaside chat)
