Bruce and Naha return to the nest only a short time difference between. We assume that they must have met up beforehand. No time to waste in getting the nest ready for the new season!

2023 Season Summary

From the very beginning, Bruce was all business... collecting and placing sticks, digging and cupping the bowl, mating and bringing fish. He wants chicks, it seems. Naha has also escalated in her housekeeping... each day she seems a bit more bonded to the nest and it's structure.
We have seen no sign of Betty, the previous female. We hope this means she has found another path with another partner..... she is a great Mom! And we wish her success and happiness.
There has been minor intrusions on the nest of various species! (see Observation Board and Visual Observation Board)

Betty, the previous year's female arrived very late (05/20/2022), about a month after 3 eggs were laid. She repeatedly tried to land on the nest only to be routinely chased off, and Naha actually hauled her off the nest by the shoulders once! Betty stayed near the nest all season, and made many attempts to land there. (We wonder if both females will show up again in 2023??)
In July it became obvious that Betty was determined to stay in the nest area, so a vote was held for the chatters to name the new female. Naha was chosen, a Chinook name for "Mother". (She had been previously referred to as Betty2)

Dad is Bob, and our female is Betty laid 3 eggs, the first of which was laid just before 8pm on May 3rd. Incubation is anywhere from 36-42 days. The first egg hatched on 6/13 around 9:20am.
